NYX Cosmetics Haul

NYX Makeup haul, beauty blogger, review

After hosting the #BBloggers chat a few months ago I decided to invest in some NYX makeup as it was a brand that was continually being mentioned, and when I asked “what is your favourite makeup brand” NYX won hands down. Enough said. Investment needed.

What I like about NYX is that it’s available in Boots so I can go test and swatch to my hearts content before I decide if I want to purchase. Usually I buy most of my makeup online because either 1. It’s only available online or 2. The nearest stockist is London which is quite a trek for me so I don’t get the opportunity to try products before I splash the cash. On top of that if you didn’t already know NYX is super affordable. As a bit of a makeup snob I wasn’t sure what to expect but I’ve been pleasantly surprised. Some products I wouldn’t recommend and others I totally would. Read on to find out what I think…..

NYX Vivid Brights eyeliner and Crystal Eyeliner

NYX Vivid Brights & Liquid Crystal Liners

I bought these eyeliners as I keep on thinking I’m going to try some Instagram worthy daring makeup looks, but so far I’ve only used them both once and the looks weren’t very daring!! haha.

I used the Liquid Crystal Liner to finish off a red eye look with small dots (if you follow my Instagram/ Snapchat you’ve probably seen it) and I loved how it added that bit of sparkle without it being OTT. The brush is easy to control and the liquid is compacted well with glitter so you will definitely see the sparkle.

I actually have the Vivid Brights Liquid Liner in Blue and Purple now (I’ve swatched both for you in this post). Again I’ve not used either of them a lot but that’s only because I need to find occasions where it’s appropriate to wear purple or blue liner and not scare people – it’s not particularly work friendly! Application is easy and the liquid is very wet. That may sound like an odd thing to say as its a liquid, but I find some liquid liners don’t have much product on the nib/ brush which I find harder to apply.

Both these liners have a thin brush as an appication rather than the felt tip pen type applicator which I prefer.

NYX Strobe of Genius Illuminating Palette

If you follow me on Snapchat you’ll already know what I think of this product as I rave about it all the time – it’s brilliant!!! Before I purchased The NYX Strobe of Genius palette I had the thought I’m sure most of us have had – “Do I really need another highlighter..?” And the answer is YES! I have tons of highlighters but I haven’t put this one down since I purchased it. The NYX Strobe of Genius Illuminating Palette is super super pigmented (you literally hardly need to tap your brush in the pan) and the formula is incredibly creamy. All the shades are beautiful and double up as nice eyeshadows too. There is a reason Nikkie Tutorials is a fan of this palette!! If you are only going to buy one NYX product make sure it’s this one! Can you tell I like it….? 😉

NYX eyeshadows

NYX Primal Colours & Hot Singles Eyeshadows

I bought the Primal Colour in shade Hot Fushia and the Hot Singles in Maneater as I thought they went well together.

For £3.50 for a Hot Singles eyeshadow I’m seriously impressed. As you can see from the swatch Maneater is extremely pigmented, although I have picked up a dark shade which always tend to be more pigmented, so I’d be interested to see the pigmentation of a fairer shade. It wasn’t the easiest to blend out, but it lasted well and for a drugstore eyeshadow at such a reasonable price I’m definitely doing to be picking up some more.

The Primal Colour eyeshadow is more than just an eyeshadow as it can be used all over the face and body, so great if you like playing around with face paints – something I’d like to give a go. Because of it’s versatility and high pigmentation it is more expensive than the Hot Singles at £5.50, but its’ still hardly going to break the bank! Again I was impressed with the pigmentation of Hot Fushia and I’d love to try some more shades.

NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipstick in shade: Lace Detail

I had high hopes for this liquid lipstick as it was the one product that everyone spoke about most on Twitter. The NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipstick started off so well, it was soft, glided on well and didn’t look patchy or drying. However my expectations weren’t met as it soon went crusty and started to drop off not that long after wearing it. After about an hour or so it also started to make my lips look very dry too. I know this lipstick suits loads of other people so it may just be that it doesn’t agree with my lips, and it’s a shame as they do have such an awesome array of shades to choose from, but it won’t be a product that I choose to pick up again in a hurry.

Do you have any other NYX makeup recommendations for me?
