Anastasia Beverly Hills Master by Mario Palette Review & Swatches

Anastasia Beverly Hills Master by Mario Palette Review & Swatches

For someone who is a massive Anastasia Beverly Hills fan I was very late off the mark when it came to the Master by Mario palette. When the Modern Renaissance palette launched earlier this year I ordered it straight away – before even leaving my bed that morning. However, with a busy work load these past few months my personal emails have been seriously ignored so the email announcement of the Mario palette slipped through the net. To make matters worse it’s a limited edition palette so once it’s gone, it’s gone. As time crept on I saw more and more photos of it crop up on Instagram and on blogs and I just knew I’d love it. It was ABH so I knew the quality would be unreal and with all those gorgeous warm tones I know it would be perfect for me. I decided I wanted it but but this time it was far too late….. It was gone.

In my desperate need I put a tweet out asking if anyone knew how I could get hold of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Master by Mario palette or the Violet Voss Holy Grail palette. Stacey from ExpatMakeupAddict who lives in Dubai tweeted me back saying she could help me out getting the ABH Mario palette as they still had stock of it in Sephora in Dubai…. basically, to cut a very long story short, I met Stacey in December in the UK as she was over here visiting and she had kindly bought me the ABH Mario palette and gave it to me as a gift for my birthday! So kind of her! So I am now a proud owner of said palette and if it wasn’t for Stacey I would never have got my hands on it. Thank you Stacey!!

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Master by Mario palette has been produced in conjunction with Mario Dedivanovic – famously known as being Kim Kardashian’s makeup artist. It contains 12 shades ranging from matte to metallic, all of which have been named after influential women or places in Mario’s life.

The palette is fairly small in size when compared to most palettes I own which helps when travelling and for storing. The packaging is made from cardboard but still feels fairly sturdy, although for a high end brand like ABH I would have preferred a metal container like the Tartelette in Bloom palette for example. I’m just glad they haven’t used a textured front like they did with the Modern Renaissance palette as it just gets filthy and stained so easily.

Anastasia Beverly Hills create some of the best eyeshadows out there in my opinion and this palette is no exception. The formula is buttery and highly pigmented. There is a fair amount of fallout when first applied but I always do my eyes first, brush away any excess and then apply my base so this doesn’t bother me.

The colour selection is perfect for this time of year and will suit virtually all skin tones. Although they look different in the palette, ‘Marina’ and ‘5th Avenue’ are practically identical once applied and you wouldn’t be able to tell them apart once worn – in fact I did one lid with ‘Marina’ and one with ‘5th Avenue’ and no one noticed! ‘Hollywood’ is also very similar.

I would also have preferred a matte white shade in the palette as that is one colour I always hit pan on first, as I use white on my brow bone for every makeup look I do. Most palettes I own have a white so I’m surprised this one didn’t.

If you’re not a fan of blue shades don’t be alarmed by ‘Claudia’ as you will see in my swatches that it actually comes out a lot darker than expected, and when I blended it with other colours in this palette you couldn’t even tell it was blue.

As always with Anastasia Beverly Hills the quality can’t be questioned in the Master by Mario palette, but if it were me I probably would have chosen a few different colour variations.

This palette has made me realise that next time ABH bring a new palette out I must get it straight away as I can’t be dealing with any more FOMO!

Oh and in case you are wondering I also managed to get hold of the Violet Voss Holy Grail palette too, so a post will be coming soon on that one!

Have you got the ABH Master by Mario palette? What do you think of it?
