If you’ve followed me for any length of time you will probably know that my favourite shade of lipstick is red. I love a classic red lip as I think it goes with most outfits, it makes my lips look bigger and there is something about a red lip which makes me feel more confident. The quote “Never underestimate the power of red lipstick and high heels” definitely rings true with me.
I own more red lipsticks than I care to think about, so much so that I think I’m going to go on a red lipstick ban now as there are lots of very similar colours in my collection…. So I thought it was about time that I shared with you my 5 favourite red lipsticks that I (currently) own.
Joan Collins Divine Lips Lipstick in shade ‘Crystal’
I knew immediately I wanted to include this lipstick when I thought of this post as an idea because not only do I love the shade “Crystal” but Joan Collins lipsticks are so underrated and need to be given loads more credit. The packaging looks very high end and is often mistaken for Charlotte Tilbury, although the Joan Collins range is gold, not rose gold like Charlotte Tilbury. I love this colour of bright red, but what does it for me is the finish – it has such a high shine to it. If you want a red lipstick with that WOW effect then this is for you! Classic glamour at its best.
MAC Lipstick in shade ‘Petite Red’
I’ve said this before, but whoever decided that MAC sales staff/ MUAs can only wear MAC makeup is a genius – it always works a treat on me and I end up buying what one of of the lovely MAC girls are wearing! On this occasion I was in St Pancras station getting a train home and as I had 20 minutes to kill I popped into MAC, as you do. One of the MAC ladies in there was wearing one of the Limited Edition lipsticks – ‘Petite Red’ with the lip liner ‘Current’. I was immediately sold and I regularly wear this combo together. ‘Petite Red’ is a satin finish red lipstick with more bluey undertones than the other reds in this post, which is why it works so well with a dark purple lipstick blended together. It has serious staying power and wears evenly. I just feel bad including it in this list as it’s a Limited Edition you can no longer buy it! Sorry guys!
Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in shade ‘American Doll’
Currently I would go as far to say that this is my all time favourite lipstick (to date) and that’s a big statement to make! I would describe ‘American Doll’ as a ruby red and it is just made me for me. My lips always look so defined and much larger when I wear this lipstick and I always get so many lovely comments asking what lipstick I’m wearing when I have it on. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick formulas are one of the best out there with high pigmentation and so long lasting. I apply this lipstick for a night out, go out eating and drinking and never need to top it up. American Doll you well and truly have my heart.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in shade ‘Spicy’
Another ABH liquid lipstick on the list, but when the formula is this good you can’t not include it and it is such a different shade to American Doll. Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in shade ‘Spicy‘ is a bright orange red not made for the faint hearted. As it’s very orange toned it wouldn’t go with every outfit like deeper reds would but it’s perfect to brighten up your look in the Spring/ Summer. I’ve wrote a full post on the ABH liquid lipstick formulas which you can read here.
ABH now has a UK site (yippee) and although the lipsticks are currently unavailable it says they are coming soon and ‘Spicy’ is on the list so if you live in the UK you should be able to get your hands on it shortly!
L’Oreal Colour Riche Matte Lipstick in shade ‘346 Scarlet Silhouette’
If you didn’t know I am the face of the L’Oreal Colour Riche Matte Lipstick shade 346 and recently appeared in their advertising campaign on social media – I know, CRAZY!!! As I say red is my colour so I was super lucky they picked me to model a red shade for them. It was meant to be! However, regardless of my association with this lipstick I really do love it and wanted to include it in this list. The new L’Oreal Matte lipsticks are like no other matte lipstick I have tried before as they are so moisturising – yes, you heard that correctly, a matte lipstick that is moisturising! It actually feels smooth and soft when you apply it. Shade ‘346 Scarlet Silhouette’ is a beautiful scarlet red colour and would suit any skin tone. It may not last as long as a liquid matte lipstick but then it’s nowhere near as drying, so if you struggle with liquid matte lipsticks for that reason definitely give this one a go!
