If you haven’t already heard L’Oreal have recently launched their new Infallible Lip Paints – a collection of 11 bold and loud colours – some matte and some lip lacquers. I’ve been lucky enough to get my hands on the full collection so I wanted to give you the my thoughts as I’ve been wearing them a lot in the last few weeks.
As I say, the range consists of 5 lip lacquers and 6 matte lipsticks. As they are very different formulas I’m going to address them individually.
Let’s start with the matte lip paints….. Before you start to read this get out of your head what you think a matte lipstick is, as these matte lipsticks are like no other I have tried before…..
The thing that surprised me with both lipstick formulas is the applicator. Based on the outer packaging which is squeezy I thought they were going to have a slanted applicator inside (think old school Lancome Juicy Tubes), but in fact they have a doe foot sponge tip applicator which I think makes application a lot more accurate.
The L’Oreal matte lip paints apply so easily. The formula is nowhere near as thick as you would expect a matte liquid lipstick to be.
With the consistency being a lot lighter it means it doesn’t last as long as most matte liquid lipsticks and there is a little transfer when drinking a cuppa, but the upside of it means its no where near as drying, with no caking or flaking- which is perfect for me as my lips are constantly dry and chapped.
The other big difference with these matte lipsticks is they stay wet for a lot longer – the photos of the swatches here were taken about 5 minutes after I applied them and as you can see they all still look pretty wet. They do eventually dry down and become a lot more matte than the lacquers in the collection. The benefit of this I found, was that I could blend them with other lipsticks very easily. If you watched my Instastories last night then you would have seen that I blended L’Oreal Wuthering purple with a MAC lilac lipstick (Courting seduction) to create a beautiful ombre effect.
The pigmentation of the matte lipsticks is varied but overall very good….. I’ve found that Wuthering Purple isn’t as pigmented as most of the others and needs a few extra strokes (is that a thing in lipstick talk…?).
Moving on to the L’Oreal lacquer lip paints…… Apart from Dark River which can apply a bit streaky and therefore needs a few extra strokes (I’m going with it…) the pigmentation is amazing! These lip lacquers not only provide high shine but they last – which you don’t expect from a glossy lip product, and they are non-drying. I would say they last around half a day with drinking before you need to top it up.
The formula is creamy and glides on like a dream – I’ve found no need for a separate lip brush, nor have a used a lip liner and there is absolutely no bleeding.
I’m loving L’Oreal’s new Lip Paint range so much so that I have worn one every day this week – the the lip lacquers are my fav. They are bold, pigmented and for £6.99 I think they are a bargain.
