Makeup Disappointments V.2

Makeup I WON'T repurchase

I can’t believe it’s been over a year since I wrote my first makeup disappointments post. It was so popular that I knew I would do another one, but I just didn’t realise it would take me over a year to get round to it!

Sadly on this occasion all the makeup that has let me down is all high end – but that’s probably because I mainly buy high end. All this makeup together has set me back over £200 which isn’t cheap, so I’m here to make sure you don’t make the same mistake….. Here are 6 products which I won’t be repurchasing….

Makeup disappointments

Hourglass Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer

Hourglass Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer

I’ve been wanting to try Hourglass for years now. Seriously years. Their powders have always been highly regarded and they look just beautiful.

I was looking for a new contour powder as my Charlotte Tilbury one was running seriously low, so I asked for the Hourglass Ambient lighting Bronzer in shade Luminous Bronze Light for Christmas. I was convinced that it was going to be amazing and my world would be changed forever, but sadly it wasn’t….. Now it’s not that this powder is awful, but it’s only OK and I find the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar and Bronze powder much better. The shade is a tad too orange toned for me and don’t find it blends that well. Like I say it’s OK, but for the price you want it to be amazing.

Lancôme Custom Made Foundation

Lancôme Custom Made Foundation

I always get so excited to try new foundations, but it’s even more exciting when you get to go to Harrods and Lancôme make a foundation that matches your shade exactly…..!

What isn’t exciting is when you spend £90 on said foundation and you no longer use it! Ouch, that hurts just a little.

I wrote a full blog post on it here which you can read, but ultimately the coverage was a real let down for me so I no longer wear it.

Tarte Tarteist Quick Dry Lip Paint - Shade Rosy Nude

Tarte Tarteist Quick Dry Lip Paint – Shade Rosy Nude

I bought the Tarte Tarteist lipstick as part of a set in the Boxing Day Sale last year (FYI their sale was epic).  I’ve been a huge lover of Tarte for some time now but hadn’t, up until now, ventured into their lipstick range.

The Tarte Tarteist lipstick in colour Rosy Nude is a matte liquid lipstick which is the most beautiful shade but unfortunately it’s so so drying. My lips looked like a shrivelled prune after about 10 minutes of applying it and it only got worse from then on. It flakes, crumbles and leaves my lips looking an absolute mess.

Kevyn Aucoin The Sensual Skin Enhancer - Shade SX01

Kevyn Aucoin The Sensual Skin Enhancer – Shade SX01

As someone who loves full coverage foundation I thought I’d love the Kevyn Aucoin The Sensual Skin Enhancer. This product is sold as a mixture between a foundation and concealer. I read so many blog posts and watched load of YouTube videos on it and I was totally sold. They all used it as a high coverage foundation and sung its praises.

Well firstly it’s tiny. Like, minute. The size of a lip balm pot. So for almost £40 there isn’t much for your buck. The biggest issue was though was that it just didn’t look great, it’s so incredibly thick it looks cakey and it’s hard to blend. It didn’t work with the beauty blender at all and the finish with a foundation brush was far from flawless.

This could be used as a concealer but nothing more. A very expensive concealer at that.

Tom Ford Sheer Lip Colour Lipstick - Shade 10 Rose Soleil Tom Ford Sheer Lip Colour Lipstick - Shade 10 Rose Soleil

Tom Ford Sheer Lip Colour Lipstick – Shade 10 Rose Soleil

I’ve been so unlucky with Tom Ford products as I’ve not been wowed by any that I’ve bought and they are some of the most expensive that I own!

Ok, so this lipstick is sold as a sheer colour, but its so pale and transparent you can’t even seen anything is on my lips – it’s totally pointless. On the swatch here you can see some colour as it’s on my pale white arm, but once it’s applied to pinky coloured lips you literally can’t see a thing. Nudda.

Another lipstick that I can’t bare to throw away but will never wear….

MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre

MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre

I may be being a bit harsh including the MAC Paint Pot in this post…….. As again it’s not a really bad product – but I’ve used better. I much prefer the Urban Decay Eden Eye Potion that I featured in my recent post as an item I can’t stop buying.

The MAC paint pot is an eye cream that MAC say you can wear alone or with other products. Personally I couldn’t wear it alone as it creased too much so I use it as an eye primer. It’s good at carving out eyebrows but just a bit too thick and not as easy to blend as the UD eye primer.

As the UD eye primer is so good I just find myself reaching for that every time and now the MAC Paint Pot doesn’t get a look in.
