Makeup, like fashion, is very personal – it’s a way to showcase your style and whether you’re a fan of a little, or a lot of the stuff, it can make you feel an amazing dollars.
As I’m an all or nothing type of gal with most things in my life, I generally wear quite a lot of makeup. Even though I wear a lot of it I do still like variety and my makeup looks will vary from a natural daytime look that I wear everyday for work, to a brighter, bolder look for my nights out.
I want to share with you two very different looks I’ve created using NYX Professional makeup from Boots – one that I wear for work and the other is perfect for a night on the town.
Routine 1 – Daytime
NYX products used: NYX Honey Dew Me Up Primer and NYX Warm Neutrals Ultimate Shadow Palette
I always start with priming my skin so it can settle in while I get on with doing my eyes, and before I apply my base. I started with the NYX Honey Dew Me Up Primer which neutralizes the appearance of discoloration and redness. The gold flecks also help create a radiant look that will help keep your skin looking glowy all day.
On to the eyes and I used the NYX Warm Neutrals Ultimate Shadow Palette to create a natural look. This NYX palette is a brilliant staple to have in your makeup collection as its compact and contains 16 warm neutral colours which would suit all skin tones.
I started with shade 1 all over the eye which gives me a plain base to work with. I blended in shade 6 in the crease right up to a few millimetres from the brow, so there is only a tiny bit of white showing at the top.
Next I applied shade 14 in the crease to darken it, and shade 7 all over the lid.
Finally, I took a small brush and patted shade 10 in the outer corner of my eye.
To keep this look quick and simple (for me!) I don’t apply any bottom shadow or false lashes – just some eyeliner and mascara.
I finish my look by doing my base, contouring, blush, highlight and adding a matte nude lipstick.
Routine 2 – Going Out Out
NYX products used: NYX Honey Dew Me Up Primer, NYX Colour Correcting Concealer Palette, NYX Warm Neutrals Ultimate Shadow Palette, NYX Phoenix Ultimate Shadow Palette and NYX Candy Slick Glowy Lip Gloss in Jawbreaker.
If you can’t go all out with red tones when you’re going out out when can you, hey!?
Firstly I primed my skin with the NYX Honey Dew Me Up Primer, as above.
Next, I started on my eyes and I used the NYX Warm Neutrals Ultimate Shadow Palette – I used shade 1 all over my eyes as a base, then applied shade 6 in the crease right – just as I did for look 1 as they are brilliant base shades for so many colours.
Onto the NYX Phoenix eyeshadow palette I used shade 15 in the crease and then applied shade 13 all over the lid with a brush, and with my finger pressed shade 7 into the centre of my lid only – which creates a subtle halo effect.
Now, this may seem odd but I dipped my brush into shade 3, 8, 11 and 14 to make a dark browny/ red and smudged it into the outer corner of my lid and acround up into the crease – this then needs to be blended a lot and repeating several times. I also advise you only use a very small brush to apply it with and start small. It’s much easier to build up than it is to take away, especially with dark shades.
Once that’s all done, I apply top eyeliner, mascara and false lashes to give added drama.
Back on to the base and I used the NYX Colour Correcting Concealer Palette which contains six shades. You can use them individually, or combine them to mask blemishes, red patches or dark circles. The darker shade you could even use for as a subtle cream contour if you are very fair skinned too.
I used the green shade to combat my redness and the yellow shade to cover my dark circles under my eyes and brighten my face, and I blended then using a concealer brush and beauty sponge. I only usually go to this much effort on a night out as I can give myself hours to get ready, but I wouldn’t bother for just an every day routine.
After applying foundation, translucent powder, highlight and contour powder, I apply eyeshadow to under my bottom lash line and I mirror what I did on the lid – but keep it fairly close as you don’t want to spread eyeshadow down to your cheek!
I finished it off with the NYX Candly Slick Glowy Lip Gloss in the shade Jawbreaker – it’s a beautiful red shade with high shine that isn’t all sticky. It’s a lacquer texture and although the shine wears off after lots of eating/ drinking the bold red pigment stays put all night.
I hope you enjoyed seeing how I created these looks and if you have any questions just comment below!
